Hot Air Ballons Filling the Sky: the Annual Bristol Ballon Fiesta

5 September 2017

Starting from the day when we decided to go to Bristol, I was excited for the famous balloon festival. More than one hundred and thirty hot air balloons in different shapes and colours flew in the sky from Ashton Court Estate on the second weekend of August for the 39th time. You have to be patient to see the balloons in the sky but the final view is worth waiting for. Balloons are lifted twice a day, at 6 am in the morning and at 6 pm in the evening, depending on the weather conditions. There is a committee, which decides whether it is safe to lift the balloons almost at the last minute. So everyone holds their breaths and waits for the decision of this committee.

If the weather conditions allow, you may have a chance to see the balloons lighten up the sky at night. Don’t forget to check out the fiesta web site to see what’s on.

As I said, you have to wait to see the balloons in the sky, but don’t worry, there are plenty of other activities in the Fiesta area. You will also find lots of food outlets where you can buy fish&chips, doughnuts, ice-creams, sausages and plenty of other food. However, the best way to spend time for me is to lie down on the green grass and breathe in the fresh air.

If you are planning a trip to Bristol, you should make it in August and visit the Bristol Balloon Fiesta for sure!
